Description
Lotus seeds simmered in milk and flavoured with nutmeg.
Cooking Time : 25 mins.
Preparation Time : 10 mins.
Serves 4.
|
Ingredients
1 cup makhanas (lotus seeds)
5 cups milk
2 tablespoons ghee
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg powder (jaiphal)
3 to 4 strands saffron
For the garnish
1 tablespoon slivered pistachios
2 to 3 glace cherries, sliced
1 edible silver leaf (varq)

Method
1. Heat the ghee in a pan, add the makhanas and saute for 3 to 4 minutes till they are crisp.
2. Remove from the fire and crush them slightly.
3. Heat the milk in a heavy bottomed pan and when it comes to a boil, add the crushed makhanas and simmer for about 15 to 20 minutes.
4. Add the nutmeg powder and saffron. Mix well.
5. Remove from the fire.
6. Garnish with the pistachios, glace cherries and silver leaf.
7. Serve hot.
